Biography

 

Praised for his “dark, rolling baritone“(Münchener Merkur) and “soft and compact timber“(Corriere del Ticino), Italian baritone Nicola Ziccardi is a sought-after performer throughout Europe.

Under the baton of Maestro Gustav Kuhn, Ziccardi had become a regular member of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl. In the 2011 and 2012 Winter Seasons, Ziccardi covered Antonio and the Count in Le nozze di Figaro as well as Gran Sacerdote di Belo in Nabucco. In the summer of 2013 he covered the roles of Germont, Marquis and Commissionario in La Traviata, Vecchio Zingaro in Trovatore and Marullo and Usciere in Rigoletto. In the winter of the same year, he performed Sciarrone in Tosca and covered Masetto and the title role in Don Giovanni. In the summer of 2014 he understudied the part of Donner in Das Reihngold. This past winter the baritone covered the role of Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and also sang the Bass Solo in Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium.

Ziccardi’s first role following his studies was singing Prosdocimo in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia in a co-production between the Tito Gobbi Association and “La Scala Academy” of Milan, which was performed at the National Theater in Rome. His further Rossini credits include Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the San Pietro Theater in Rome along with Blansac in Scala di seta as part of the Ticino Music Festival at the Congress Palace of Lugano under the musical direction of Umberto Finazzi.

He has sung Uberto in La serva padrona by Pergolesi at several theaters in Italy, such as the Theater dell’Aquila in Fermo. He has received high acclaim for his interpretation of the Count in Le nozze di Figaro, which he has performed in Wales (UK) as well as at the Mela Theater in Trieste and the Giovanni da Udine Theater. His other operatic repertoire includes Marcello in La Bohème, Monterone in Rigoletto, Morales in Carmen, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Leporello in Don Giovanni, Belcore in Elisir d’Amore, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Germano in Rossini’s La scala di seta.

Ziccardi studied at the Conservatory of Music in Campobasso with Anna Vandi Gaggiotti and continued his training at the Fermo Conservatory with Nazzareno Antinori. He also attended the Ateneo Internazionale della Lirica in Sulmona for a year of study with Luciana Serra, Bernadette Manca di Nissa, Umberto Finazzi, Carmela Remigio and Leone Magiera.

In 2014 Nicola was heard singing Marcello in La Boheme (40 performances in German) at the Pasinger Fabrik in Munich, Germany; Soon after, he was a finalist at the International Competition at Pienza City, which was lead by Rolando Panerai. As the winner of the Sesto San Giovanni Competition, Nicola went on to perform the role of Masetto in Don Giovanni in Milan (January 2015).

Most recently Nicola made his debut at Teatro Stabile, in Potenza Italy as Schaunard in La Bohème. This successfull production was conducted by Joshua Dos Santos and directed bythe well known Alberto Paloscia.

Earlier this year he made his debut as Ortel in Die Meistersinger von Nuernberg at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, under the baton of Maestro Gustav Kuhn. In october 2015 will be singing again Ortel once again and covering Kothner in the Premier World Production at the Beijing Music Festival. For the tiroler Festspiele’s approaching Winter Season, Nicola will be singing Figaro and Fiorello in Barber of Siville and Gran Sacerdote in Nabucco.

After his experience in China, Mr. Ziccardi wiil fly to Miami on November for his debut of Germont in La Traviata at the Miami South Dade Cultaral arts Center with Miami Lyric Opera.

In 2016 Nicola will debut the role of Lethold in William Tell; Papageno in The Magic Flute and Donner in Das Rheingold for the Tiroler Festspiele’s summer Opera Festival.
